Value golf in Wales is a weekday green fee at a members' club, or an entry in one of its Open competitions, and the courses below run from £25 at Garnant Park to £64 for a weekday at Abersoch, plus Pyle & Kenfig, above that line and included only because its Ladies Open is £35 against a £110 rack rate. Most eighteen-hole clubs charge £30 to £60 on a weekday, and a published Open entry usually runs £15 to £35.

How does an Open competition work, and why is it the best value in Wales?
An Open competition is a club's own event, thrown open to visiting golfers who hold a handicap and entered through the club's timesheet or online booking page. It is usually a fraction of the standing fee: Holywell's John Ball Scratch Open is £15 against a £27 weekday round, and Builth Wells' Senior Men's Open £20 against a £36 round.
What you need is a current handicap index, entry in advance, and to observe the dress code and pace the club sets for the day. Llandrindod Wells' Open Week, unusually, is booked from a downloadable entry form rather than online. The honest caveat: you play a set format, often Stableford or four-ball better-ball, in whatever group the draw assembles, at whatever time the draw gives you.

Anglesey Golf Club, at Rhosneigr, calls itself the island's only links course, laid among dunes, and credits its ground as where Dr Frank Stableford worked on his scoring system. A summer weekday round is £40, £28 in winter. Five 2026 Opens are listed without entry fees.
Bull Bay, at Amlwch, is an eighteen-hole clifftop course opened in 1913 to a William Herbert Fowler design, and calls itself Wales' northernmost course. A round is £60 Sunday to Friday and £70 on Saturday, £40 or £45 after 3pm.
Holyhead Golf Club, at Trearddur Bay, opened in 1912 to a James Braid layout. Its own fee table lists a £25 "Open Competitions" rate alongside £45 to £55 for a standard round by season. Individual Opens booked through an outside fixtures listing run £30 to £40, among them the Men's Texas Scramble at £30 on 25 August 2026.
Clwb Golff Pwllheli, on the Llŷn, describes its ground as part links, part parkland, facing Cardigan Bay. A summer weekday round is £55, £66 at the weekend, with early-bird and twilight rounds at £33 and £44. Six Opens run through 2026, from £30 for the Pwllheli Regatta to £100 per team.
Abersoch, further along the Llŷn, was founded in 1907 to a Harry Vardon design; the club calls its front twelve proper links close to the beach and its back six inland. A weekday round is £64, £74 at the weekend, with sunrise and twilight rounds at £30 and £35.

Holywell Golf Club sits 800 feet above sea level in Flintshire, founded in 1906 and described by the club as an inland links course for its contours. A summer weekday round is £27, £22 in winter. The John Ball Scratch Open on 27 September 2026 is £15; pairs Opens run to £40 a pair.
Rhyl Golf Club, on the Denbighshire coast, is a links course the club credits to a design of 1890. Visitors pay £30 for eighteen holes on a weekday and £35 at the weekend between March and October, with a twilight rate from 2pm at £25 and £30.
Abergele Golf Club, in Gwrych Park near Conwy, is an eighteen-hole parkland course formed in 1910 and reconstructed to United States Golf Association standard between 2002 and 2003; it has hosted the Welsh Boys Championship and the Welsh Ladies Team Championships. Summer rates run £55 Monday to Thursday to £65 on Sunday, falling to £25 and £35 between November and February.
Betws-y-Coed Golf Club is a nine-hole course founded in 1977, with the River Conwy running around its perimeter in Snowdonia. Eighteen holes is £35, nine holes £25.
Porthmadog Golf Club, at Morfa Bychan, was established in 1905; the club describes its front nine as predominantly heathland and its back nine as links. A summer round is £60 on a weekday and £70 at the weekend, £35 and £40 in winter.
Bangor St Deiniol Golf Club, opposite Anglesey, was founded in 1906 and is part of the James Braid circuit of courses. A round is £40 Monday to Thursday and £50 Friday to Sunday, each dropping £15 after 4pm.

Aberystwyth Golf Club sits midway along Cardigan Bay on a mixture of downland and parkland holes, designed by Harry Vardon. Book online for £45 across the whole week from April to November, or pay £55 at the office; the online winter rate is £35.
Borth & Ynyslas calls itself the oldest course in Wales, established in 1885 and redesigned by Harry S Colt in 1947, a traditional links. Summer pricing runs by group size, £49.50 a head for one to six players down to £39 for seventeen or more; the winter bands are £43, £38 and £33. Open Week in July 2026 runs four events, three at £25, including the Senior Men's 4BBB Open on 15 July.
Cardigan Golf Club, Clwb Golff Aberteifi in Welsh, was established in 1895 above Cardigan Bay and describes its ground as mainly links; Wales Golf named it Golf Club of the Year in 2023, per the club's site. A weekday round is £50 from 1 April to 30 November, £62.50 at the weekend. The Seniors Open is £25; further Opens through summer and September's Open Week run £17.50 to £25.

Builth Wells Golf Club, founded in 1923 as a nine-hole course and extended to eighteen in 1986, has hosted Golf Union of Wales events and the 2015 Welsh Ladies Team Championships, and plays to a par of 66 with no par fives for the men. A round is £36 between May and September, a full day £60. The Senior Men's Open on 1 July 2026 is £20.
Cradoc Golf Club, near Brecon, opened in 1969 on tree-lined parkland and rates itself among the top forty courses in Wales. Eighteen holes is £45 Monday to Thursday and £50 Friday to Sunday.
Llandrindod Wells Golf Club was designed by six-times Open Champion Harry Vardon and five-times Open Champion James Braid, and the club rates it second among Wales's non-links courses. A summer round is £60 any day, falling to £45 in March and October and £40 from November to February. Open Week, the club's own Festival of Golf, runs a five-day fixture list in July 2026, most events at £25, with a visitor's week ticket at £150.
Llanymynech Golf Club is a hilltop course created in 1933, one of a kind since its fourth tee sits in Wales and the green in England. A round without a member is £50 on a weekday and £55 at the weekend, valid to 31 March 2027. The club runs Opens for men, ladies, mixed and seniors through the year.

Garnant Park Golf Club, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons in the Amman Valley, opened in 1997 on a former open-cast site and is now run by its own members. Eighteen holes is £25 on a weekday and £30 at the weekend, with further discounts for playing alongside a member, though the club puts no figure on that rate.
Haverfordwest Golf Club, founded in 1904, is a parkland course near the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Summer visitors pay £40 on a weekday and £45 at the weekend, dropping to £22 and £28 in winter. Open Days run through 2026 at £20 a head, from the 4BBB Open on 2 May to the Gents Open on 15 August.
Swansea Bay Golf Club, a links at Jersey Marine founded in 1892, plays to a demanding par 72 over 6,447 yards. A round is £30 Monday to Friday in summer and £60 at the weekend; winter is £25 and £40.
Clyne Golf Club, above Swansea Bay at Mayals, is a Harry Colt moorland course that marked its centenary in 2021 and has hosted the Welsh Women's Team Championships. A weekday round is £50 in summer and £65 at the weekend; County Card holders get a quarter off. The club holds an Open every first Wednesday through winter, plus further fixtures.

Llanishen Golf Club, in Cardiff, calls its own layout an outstanding parkland course that regularly hosts county and Wales Golf events, adopting its present name in 1905 and moving to eighteen holes in 1924. Summer visitors pay £45 Monday to Friday, £55 on Sundays and bank holidays, or £40 with a County Card; the winter column is marked "Not available" for visitors, in the club's own words. Saturdays are closed to visitors.
Llanwern Golf Club, mature parkland near Newport established in 1928, plays to par 70 over 6,177 yards; the club's site quotes Peter Alliss (spelt Allis on the page) naming it among his three favourite lesser-known courses in the UK. Summer fees are £32 Monday to Friday and £38 at the weekend, dropping to £23 and £28 in winter. Three Open Days run through summer 2026.
The Monmouthshire Golf Club, at Llanfoist near Abergavenny under the Black Mountains, was established in 1892 to a James Braid design. Eighteen holes is £55 in summer, or £30 with a member, and a County Card brings it to £40. The Senior Men 4BBB Open on 8 September 2026 is £30.
The Glamorganshire Golf Club, at Penarth, calls itself the birthplace of the Stableford system, founded after an 1890 meeting and host to the Welsh Amateur Championship twice and the first Welsh Ladies Championship. High-season golf between April and October is £70, above the bound this list keeps to, but a low-season weekday round from January to March is £35. Its Men's Open on 16 August 2026 is £35.
Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, at Kenfig, is a links in two loops of nine, the front by Harry Colt and the back by P. Mackenzie Ross. A summer round is £110 Monday to Thursday, the highest fee on this list, but the winter rate from November to February is £60 on a weekday, and its Ladies Open on 24 June 2026 is £35, among the cheapest routes onto a course of this pedigree.
What counts as value here?
The fees in the tables buy a full round, often on ground with a name the club is proud to print, for a fraction of the region's most expensive golf: Pyle & Kenfig's £110 midweek rate and the Glamorganshire's £70 high-season round are the top of what a Welsh members' club charges among the courses checked here, and most eighteen-hole clubs above sit well under both. What the lower fee does not buy is a tee time at the hour you choose on a summer Saturday, or, at Pyle & Kenfig in winter, weekend play at all.
A visitor pays less than the headline figure three ways. The weekday: Clyne is £50 against £65 at the weekend, Llanwern £32 against £38. The season band: the Glamorganshire drops from £70 to £35, Pyle & Kenfig from £110 to £60, and Porthmadog from £60 to £35 in winter. And the clock: Rhyl's twilight round is £25, Pwllheli's twilight rate £33, Abersoch's £30 against a £64 standard fee.
How do I get a tee time as a visitor in Wales?
Almost every club in the tables takes visitor bookings through its own online booking page or the Pro Shop, and several list both. Where a club prices by group size, book ahead and know your numbers: Borth & Ynyslas prices one to six players differently from seventeen or more. Bring evidence of your handicap index for an Open, and if you hold a Wales Golf County Card, say so: Llanishen, the Glamorganshire, the Monmouthshire, Clyne and Pyle & Kenfig all publish a discounted rate, and Pyle & Kenfig's is Monday to Thursday only.
Some clubs restrict visitor access on particular days. Llanishen does not open Saturdays to visitors, the Glamorganshire takes no Sunday bookings in winter, and Pyle & Kenfig accepts no weekend visitors in winter at all, playing a shortened loop instead. Check the club's visitor page before you plan a trip around a specific day.
What this list leaves out
Every figure above was read from the club's own website on one day, 23 August 2026, and the tables hold only clubs whose fee was published on that page. Several clubs price a round only inside a booking system that shows its figures to golfers who log in, so no figure appears here for them, and that rule removed names across the north Wales coast and the valleys that may be just as good value by phone. Wales also has very few municipal courses: the one council-run nine-hole course found with a public page prices its pitch and putt but not its round of golf, so it is not in these tables, and Garnant Park, though built by a county council, now describes itself as run by its own members.
Prices are one day's reading, not a promise: Cardigan's fee page carries overlapping season headings, and Holyhead's own table shows a different "Open Competitions" line from the fees its individual Opens actually charge. Opens are seasonal, and a fixture printed against a 2026 date is what the club asked that year, not next year's rate. What replaces this list is the club's own page, which carries the date this one cannot: open it, and read that date before you read the fee.
Where to start
A weekday at Garnant Park for £25, or Swansea Bay for £30 on a links that has been there since 1892, is the plain answer. The adventurous one is an Open: Holywell's John Ball Scratch at £15, Builth Wells' Senior Men's at £20, or Pyle & Kenfig's Ladies Open at £35 on a course that charges £110 for the ordinary round. Bring your handicap certificate, leave time for the drive, and let the course do the rest.
